Junior Achievement volunteers teach modules in work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. Jennifer Barborak, Grant Writer for the UPMC Horizon Community Health Foundation presents Junior Achievement modules to the 5th grade class of Mrs. Dawn Blaus at Case Avenue Elementary School in Sharon, PA. Jennifer travels to the classroom five times over the course of a few months and spends on average 1.5 hours each day with the fifth graders talking about: types of resources, opportunity cost, entrepreneurship, resumes, job interviews and global markets. “This year, the activities changed for each module so it was a challenge,” Jennifer explained, “The students seemed to better retain the information between sessions and the activities were easier to implement with larger class sizes.” At the completion of the program, the students receive a certification of completion.
