The UPMC Horizon and Jameson Foundations had the opportunity to celebrate students at the UPMC Jameson School of Nursing in New Castle by providing them a gift as they pursue their education. On March 25th and 26th, the School of Nursing hosted Stethoscope Award Ceremonies for nursing students in their second semester. Nearly 80 students were joined by School of Nursing faculty and leadership along with Foundation Board members Jay Bruce and Scott Graubard as they received stethoscopes provided by a grant from the Foundations.
Mary Beth Langdon, the Director of the School of Nursing, told the students that the stethoscopes, a medical listening device, were representative of their listening abilities, a critical skill for any nurse. She encouraged students to listen not only to their instructors at the school, but also to develop the skill to enable them to listen closely to patients and their concerns and needs. Receiving a stethoscope marks a milestone on the students’ path to their new career in healthcare.
The stethoscopes were purchased for students through a grant provided by the Foundations as an opportunity to celebrate the students’ education. The Chairman of the Foundations’ Board, Mr. Bruce, told students that the Foundations are proud to support the next generation of nurses and emphasized how important they will be to the patients they treat. The Foundations look forward to continuing to support students at the School through programs and scholarship aid.
The Foundations congratulate and celebrate each of these students as they reach this important milestone and thank the faculty and staff of the School of Nursing for their collaboration in making the award ceremony possible.
