The UPMC Jameson Healthcare Foundation recently completed its second annual stethoscope fundraiser, raising $16,500 through the generosity of more than 40 donors to benefit the Foundation’s Jameson School of Nursing Support Fund.
Contributions from individuals, a significant gift from the May Emma Hoyt Foundation, and a matching donation from Frank Mindicino and Judy Mindicino made it possible to provide stethoscopes to 84 students entering their second semester at the UPMC Jameson School of Nursing.
A stethoscope ceremony was held on January 9, 2026, recognizing this important milestone in each student’s nursing education. A first stethoscope is both an essential clinical tool and a meaningful symbol of progress as students advance in their training. Kevin Macdonald, Vice President of Operations at UPMC Horizon and UPMC Jameson, represented the Foundation during the presentation.
The ceremony came during a season of continued growth and achievement for the School of Nursing. In December, 43 students graduated and were recognized during commencement for their academic accomplishments and commitment to patient care.
The school also welcomed more than 45 new students in January — the first cohort to begin the program during the spring semester. These students will soon begin clinical experiences at UPMC Horizon and UPMC Jameson, continuing the school’s mission of preparing the next generation of nurses to serve the region.
