Grants

The UPMC Horizon Community Health Foundation and the UPMC Jameson Health Care Foundation are proud to support UPMC Horizon, UPMC Jameson, and health-focused organizations within Horizon and Jameson service area through periodic grant funding which improves the well-being of the community and its residents.

Beginning in 2026, the Foundations have implemented a grant cycle during which departments of UPMC Horizon and UPMC Jameson or organizations may apply for grant funding during specific time periods. Please note that due to the substantial number of applications that the Foundations receive, not all requests are able to be fulfilled.

Eligibility

The following organizations are eligible to apply for funding from the UPMC Horizon or UPMC Jameson Foundations:

  • Departments of UPMC Horizon or UPMC Jameson Hospitals
  • UPMC departments or entities which operate in the UPMC Horizon or UPMC Jameson service area (primarily Lawrence and Mercer Counties, Pennsylvania)
  • Non-profit organizations which primarily operate in the UPMC Horizon or UPMC Jameson footprint whose primary activities seek to improve the health of the region or its residents.

Timeline

  • August 1 to September 30 – Applications may be submitted to the Foundations. All applications must be received by the Foundations by 11:59pm on September 30th to be considered.
  • All applications will be reviewed by the Foundations, which may request additional information.
  • Applications will be considered by the Foundations’ grant review team, with final decisions made by the Foundations’ Boards of Directors in December.
  • Funds will be made available to selected applicants for use beginning in January, 2027.

Grant Awards & Reports

A final grant report is due to the Foundations within 12 months of a grant award, or upon completion of the project/initiative for which funding was provided, whichever comes first.

Applications are reviewed by the Foundations’ grant committee and approved by the Foundations’ Board of Directors. Due to the number of grant requests that the Foundations receive, not all requests can be fulfilled. Generally, the Foundations prefer to support novel or impactful programs which improve community and individual health, provide better outcomes for health treatment, or increase the level and accessibility of care which can be offered to residents in the region. The typical award ranges from $1,000 to $10,000.

In rare cases, the Foundations will consider on a quarterly basis a grant request which requires more immediate funding. To inquire about whether a request can be considered outside of the dates listed above, contact Adam Nowland, Director, at nowlandav@upmc.edu or 724-656-4103.
