The UPMC Horizon Medical Staff Scholarship
The UPMC Horizon Medical Staff Scholarship supports medical students living and working in the UPMC Horizon and UPMC Jameson service area.
The UPMC Horizon Medical Staff Scholarship was originally established by the generosity of a group of physicians residing and working in the Greenville and Shenango Valley areas of Pennsylvania. This scholarship has for many years supported students who are pursuing their education in medical school. In recent years, the scholarship was expanded to support students in and around the service areas of both UPMC Horizon and UPMC Jameson. This scholarship is administered through the UPMC Horizon Community Health Foundation and is overseen by a committee of local physicians.
Students who are enrolled in medical school and who work at or live in the area primarily served by UPMC Horizon and Jameson are eligible to apply for this scholarship pursuant to the following criteria:
Eligibility
Students who meet all of the following criteria are eligible to apply for the Scholarship.
- Students must:
- have a primary residence in Mercer or Lawrence Counties, Pennsylvania; or
- have a primary residence in UPMC Horizon or UPMC Jameson’s service area; or
- have served or currently be serving in a rotation at UPMC Horizon or UPMC Jameson, or currently have a future rotation at either hospital scheduled.
- Students must be currently enrolled in an accredited medical school. (Allopathic or Osteopathic Medicine).
Application Requirements
Applicants must submit the following documents for their application to be considered:
- A completed and signed application.
- A current grade transcript.
- A biographical statement (not to exceed 2 pages) detailing their outside interests, educational goals and career objectives; and
- A passport-size black-and-white photograph to be used for publication purposes if the applicant is selected as a recipient of the scholarship.
Application Submission
The application submission window opens on February 1, 2026, and closes on April 1, 2026. All applications and supporting documents MUST be received by 4:00pm April 1, 2026 to be considered during the current scholarship cycle.

Applications are considered by a committee of physicians within the UPMC Horizon and Jameson network. Scholarship winners will be notified by the committee upon final decision. All scholarship distributions will be made in the form of a payment towards the applicant’s tuition costs made directly to the student’s school. Scholarship recipients will be requested to provide a copy of their tuition bill and a remittance address upon notification of their scholarship award.
